In partnership with Cambridge Art Association and Gately Youth Center, Creativity Lab! began in 2014. It is an 8-week program for middle-school students to explore various types of art-making and creative processes with professional artists and scientists. 2016 focused on the technique of printmaking inviting in professionals who work across the field including letterpress, logo design, silkscreen and Zine making. The students even went on a field trip to Artisan’s Asylum to see 3-D printing in action! Their work was exhibited at University Place Gallery in Harvard Square. 2015 programming was geared toward STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) with two visiting artists and two visiting scientists, one from a local group DeScience resulting in glamorous fashion creations. The final exhibit of student portraiture was held at the Mayor’s office. 2014, the inaugural year, the theme was ‘Recycle’ and two teaching artists led the students in making ‘junk’ food & mixed media collages exhibited at University Place gallery.
