Awarded EL STEAM mini-grants!!

I’m excited to announce Cambridge Creativity Commons (CCC) in partnership with Catalyst Conversations (CC) and the East End House (EEH) has been awarded two Expanded Learning STEAM (ELSTEAM) mini-grants for events and programs aligned with the Cambridge Science Festival! this spring!

The collaboration between CCC and CC has resulted in a 2nd annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Conversation, A STEAM Conversation: Learning through the Lens of Art & Science is a lecture and workshop that explores the fertile overlap between the arts and sciences and how teaching them together can promote excitement and engagement in learning. A local artist and scientist will give presentations on a common theme followed by a hands-on workshop with ideas on how to merge science and arts education. We welcome educators, youth, artists, scientists and those interested in this rich ground for learning! It will be held at the new Lesley University College of Art & Design, Lower Commons on April 23rd from 3pm – 4:30. For more information on Catalyst Conversations please go to www.catalystconversations.org

CCC and EEH are collaborating to develop and implement an 8-week program targeted to middle school students on kinetic sculpture, Art in Motion: Kinetic STEAMulation. The program familiarizes youth with historic and contemporary kinetic art as well as the science behind it. They will construct their own kinetic sculpture using found materials and engineering processes. We are working with the MIT museum to hopefully display their creations over one of the weekends of the Cambridge Science Festival! Please visit East End House online, here.

Thanks again EL STEAM network for your support!!
